Tackling climate change and peak oil means reducing the oil dependence of our transport. First and foremost, this means promoting alternatives to the use of private motorised transport. The transport group is actively promoting such alternatives.

It's National Bike Week 13-20 June - here are some key events
MASS BIKE RIDE, PEACE FOUNTAIN, JUNE 20, 12pmMeet at The Peace Fountain (north end of central parks, at bottom of London Rd), mainly on cycle routes and some on road. A loop through town to Mayflower Park then back up the parks to the Peace Fountain. Suitable for all abilities. If parent/guardian is happy that children are competent on their own two wheels, they are more than welcome, as long as under 18 year olds are accompanied by an adult who is responsible for the child. Decorate your bikes and yourselves if you wish! Do join us with your picnic lunch afterwards (maybe 1pm). Just turn up.
FILM 'WHO KILLED THE ELECTRIC CAR'
KING ALFRED PUB, OLD NORTHAM RD, JUNE 21, 7:30pm
Currently in wide DVD release, Paineâ's film investigates the events leading to the quiet destruction of thousands of new, radically efficient electric vehicles. Through interviews and narrative, the film paints a picture of an industrial culture whose aversion to change and reliance on oil may be deeper then its ability to embrace ready solutions.
