Introduction to Permaculture Course
If you've looked into permaculture courses before, you'll know that this is an absolute bargain, and so close to home! This is a special offer that is only being offered to local Transition and WinACC members. Information about a similar course run by the Brighton Permaculture tutor, Alex Penn, is a member and teacher) can be found here.
Dates: Sunday 27th June and 4th July, 10am-6pm (although it may finish a little earlier). Please arrive a little bit early so the course can start promptly at 10am.
What's covered:
The first day will focus primarily on overall design principles and theory behind permaculture, as well as urban/garden observation activities. The second day will include putting this to practice, including designing a space that is currently being used as a garden. You will ideally need to be able to attend both days.
How to book:
If you are interested in a place, please e-mail Megan at food @ transitionsouthampton [dot] org. Payment can be made via Paypal, but please wait until a space has been confirmed for you before you pay as I'm not sure how to do refunds!
We need at least 15 people to make this financially worth running for our facilitator (seeing as how it would normally be much more). The course is capped at 20 people attending.
Where it is:
The course will take place on the Growing Communities site--a project being run by Denis Selby of Society of St James that is creating a gardening space used both by volunteers and clients dealing with homelessness. The main site will be at Fairways House, Mount Pleasant Road, SO14 0QB and then observations and design work can be done from the garden on 217 Radcliff Rd, SO14 0PS. We will be meeting at 10am
Please bring a vegetarian dish to share on both days. Also suggested are a sun hat & sun screen, warm/waterproof clothing & sturdy outdoor footwear, warm socks or slippers for indoors, gardening gloves if you want to get involved in the practical demonstrations, pens, pencils, notepad & an A4 paper a ring binder, and a water bottle.

We'll be expanding this campaign soon with new restaurants and shops trying out local products and ingredients. If you are interested in helping out or have some ideas of restaurants that might be interested in trying out local ingredients, e-mail the group at food @ transitionsouthampton [dot] org.

Past Events- Eat Local Socials
As a group we've eaten at both the Old Delhi Eatery and the White Star Tavern--both use loads of local ingredients to make delicious meals. Hopefully another dinner outing further afield will be picked next. Perhaps at the Wheatsheaf (a pub in Braishfield that keep their own pigs on site) or at Sunnyfields (who have a fantastic kitchen using produce fresh off the fields)? Keep your eyes open for future events.
